About The Position

Nucor Steel Brandenburg is seeking an Automation and Controls Engineer to perform programming and upgrade tasks on steel mill equipment and systems. This role involves proposing and implementing innovative solutions to challenges in the steel making process and business, implementing or testing design solutions, and leading process improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and line profitability. The engineer will also review malfunctioning process sequences, investigate and troubleshoot malfunctioning technologies, and conduct calibration of machine positioning systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of industrial process automation and networking experience.
  • Programming languages such as FUP, LAD, and SCL.
  • Installing, troubleshooting and commissioning of Siemens motors and frequency inverters in manufacturing or process automation settings.
  • Experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, reading hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams, and galvanizing line sequence control.
  • Utilizing Siemens S7 controllers for industrial automation applications.
  • Implementing and maintaining industrial communication networks such as Ethernet IP, Profinet, and Profibus to support automation and control systems in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform programming and upgrade tasks on steel mill equipment and systems.
  • Propose and implement innovative solutions to challenges in the steel making process and business.
  • Implement or test design solutions.
  • Implement and maintain industrial communication networks such as Ethernet IP, Profinet, and Profibus to support automation and control systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and line profitability.
  • Review malfunctioning process sequences and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence and ensure reliable system operation.
  • Perform process signal analysis using IBA software for process storage data and test analysis on the product.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot malfunctioning technologies and implement appropriate upgrades to improve reliability and performance.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and commission Siemens motors and frequency inverters in manufacturing or process automation settings.
  • Research, select, or apply sensors, communication technologies, or control devices for motion control, position sensing, pressure sensing, or electronic communication.
  • Develop and implement PLC programs for training and simulation purposes.
  • Utilize Siemens S7 controllers for industrial automation applications.
  • Conduct calibration of machine positioning systems for accuracy and alignment in industrial automation settings.
  • Calibrate and align machine positioning systems to maintain precision in automated manufacturing processes.
