About The Position

This position is a limited-tenure role intended to support the formation, launch, and stabilization of a new company and laboratory. As the organization matures, the role is expected to transition to a permanent infrastructure position within a separate company operating independently from Mayo Clinic Laboratories. The Automated Line Operator (ALO) operates and maintains the Inpeco Total Laboratory Automation (TLA) system to ensure efficient specimen processing, maximize system uptime, and support accurate, timely laboratory testing while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Clinical laboratory environment with exposure to biological specimens while using appropriate PPE.
  • Ability to accurately read specimen labels and work with numbers to prevent mislabeling.
  • Must be organized, able to prioritize and work in a fast paced environment.
  • Must possess good human relations skills and be able to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Must be able to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off-shifts, holiday, and weekend work assignments.
  • Requires the ability to be attentive to details and to adhere to strict safety requirements for handling chemicals, reagents and infectious agents.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, or related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of laboratory functions, medical terminology, a background in science and 1-2 years medical experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with laboratory automation systems and familiarity with Inpeco or similar TLA platforms preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory workflow, specimen processing, and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
  • Previous experience or knowledge of computers and keyboarding, telephone operations and other office equipment desired.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot the automation system.
  • Load, verify, and route specimens through the automation line.
  • Perform routine maintenance and document equipment performance.
  • Respond to system issues and coordinate with laboratory staff and technical support.
  • Maintain supplies and comply with SOPs, quality, and safety requirements.
