About The Position

The Automated Inspection and Measurement group is responsible for fundamental technology development, application investigations, system integration and deployment, and long-term support across many 3M divisions in the areas of automated inspection, measurement, machine vision, automation, and process data systems. This group is a leader in digital technology within the corporation through its technology development and breadth of system deployment across 3M manufacturing operations. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering (completed and verified prior to start)
  • Two (2) years of experience in either Process Engineering role, vision technology role, or converting technology role in a private, public, government or military environment
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without current or future employer-sponsored visa sponsorship (including H1B, STEM OPT extensions, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Possess expertise equivalent to that which would be obtained in a master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Engineering field
  • Experience in converting technology, including roll good slitting and automated slitting
  • Experience in process engineering within a manufacturing or industrial setting
  • Five (5) years of professional experience implementing automated inspection, machine vision, or automated converting/slitting systems
  • Experience with 3M custom web inspection or commercial web inspection systems
  • Image processing, signal processing, optics, software, or electronics experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent networking skills, exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, integrate, and commission smart converting systems, with primary focus on fully automated slitters that ingest upstream inspection data for recipe management, cut planning, and dynamic control
  • Design and develop automated inspection systems using expertise areas such as optics, image processing, and AI
  • Working within a team setting to solve manufacturing challenges
  • Support automated converting & inspection systems in a manufacturing environment, including travel to manufacturing locations and on-call support of systems
  • Responsibilities of this position include that corporate policies, procedures and security standards are complied with while performing assigned duties.
