About The Position

The Automated Inspection and Measurement group is responsible for fundamental technology development, application investigations, system integration and deployment, and long-term support across many 3M divisions in the areas of automated inspection, measurement, machine vision, automation, and process data systems. This group is a leader in digital technology within the corporation through its technology development and breadth of system deployment across 3M manufacturing operations. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering (completed and verified prior to start)
Two (2) years of experience in either Process Engineering role, vision technology role, or converting technology role in a private, public, government or military environment
Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without current or future employer-sponsored visa sponsorship (including H1B, STEM OPT extensions, etc.).

Nice To Haves

Possess expertise equivalent to that which would be obtained in a master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Engineering field
Experience in converting technology, including roll good slitting and automated slitting
Experience in process engineering within a manufacturing or industrial setting
Five (5) years of professional experience implementing automated inspection, machine vision, or automated converting/slitting systems
Experience with 3M custom web inspection or commercial web inspection systems
Image processing, signal processing, optics, software, or electronics experience.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent networking skills, exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

Design, integrate, and commission smart converting systems, with primary focus on fully automated slitters that ingest upstream inspection data for recipe management, cut planning, and dynamic control
Design and develop automated inspection systems using expertise areas such as optics, image processing, and AI
Working within a team setting to solve manufacturing challenges
Support automated converting & inspection systems in a manufacturing environment, including travel to manufacturing locations and on-call support of systems
