About The Position

The Converting Utility is responsible for setting up, running, and cleaning printing converting equipment. This role reports to the converting shift supervisor and takes direction from the press operator. Key responsibilities include adhering to safety protocols, understanding customer specifications from work orders, coordinating with the machine crew for efficient operations, and maintaining quality and production standards. The utility performs various setup tasks such as handling cutting dies, operating machine components like the prefeeder, stacker, and counter-ejector, managing ink and glue systems, and completing necessary paperwork. They continuously monitor production quality and quantity, prepare for upcoming runs by gathering supplies, and execute assigned cleanup duties. Additionally, the role involves minor cutting die repairs, conducting quality inspections, and actively learning the duties and responsibilities of a press operator. The position requires the ability to perform job duties with or without accommodation, proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English, accurate measurement skills, basic shop math, a capacity for learning, and the ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team.

Responsibilities

Set up, run, and clean up the printing converting equipment
Report to the converting shift supervisor for the shift to which they are assigned
Follow the direction of the press operator of the crew to which they are assigned
Following all safety rules and practices
Learning customer requirements and specifications by reading factory work orders, print cards, and design specifications
Coordinating activities with other machine crew members to efficiently set up and run orders
Maintaining quality and production standards as required by the company
Performing set up functions as directed by the operator; such as removing and attaching cutting dies, zeroing and opening / closing the machine, raising, autosetting, and lowering the prefeeder, setting the stacker and counter-ejector portions of the machine, recovering ink and washing ink filters, installing inks, cleaning, setting, and adjusting the glue application system, and completing paperwork, while continuously balancing work with the operator
Continually monitoring the quality and quantity of production
Using available time to prepare for set ups and runs by obtaining protection sheets, obtaining and aiding tooling, ink, and other supplies, and tearing apart pallet cards
Performing assigned clean up functions, such as blowing down the machine, wiping off shafts, cleaning ink systems, vacuuming and sweeping the machine area, and picking up and aiding miscellaneous scrap
Performing minor cutting die repairs
Performing quality inspections and tests, and recording findings
Learning press operator duties and responsibilities
Following prescribed practices in all circumstances
Performing other duties as assigned by supervision
