About The Position

Germania Mutual Insurance is seeking an experienced and motivated Auto Underwriter to join their Underwriting team. This role involves underwriting complex automobile risks, including fleet and IRCA policies. The position is ideal for an experienced insurance professional who excels at analyzing complex risks, building strong broker relationships, and mentoring team members. The successful candidate will bring advanced technical expertise, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach to support both underwriting excellence and team development.

Requirements

Minimum 2 years of auto underwriting experience
Post-secondary education or equivalent business experience
Completion or active pursuit of the CIP designation
Proven ability to assess complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions
Experience working with brokers and managing relationships
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and manage a high level of responsibility
Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach
High attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and service excellence
Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous learning and professional development

Nice To Haves

Experience with Guidewire
Familiarity with the Mutual insurance industry

Responsibilities

Underwrite new business, renewals, and endorsements within established guidelines
Assess and evaluate complex commercial auto risks
Handle referrals, exceptions, and complex underwriting scenarios
Respond to broker inquiries and build strong, professional relationships
Contribute to underwriting guideline updates and product development initiatives
Maintain accurate documentation and clear rationale for underwriting decisions
