About The Position

This role involves providing students with industry-recognized instruction and training in auto repair. The instructor will develop and prepare lessons, recommend curriculum changes, and manage the classroom environment to foster student learning and development. Responsibilities include administering tests, maintaining student records, identifying and modifying instructional resources, and supervising students in both classroom and on-the-job training settings. The instructor will also provide coaching, technical expertise, and encouragement, while establishing and maintaining positive relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ensuring that standards and goals are met within a given timeframe, maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment, and keeping curriculum accurate with industry trends are key aspects of this position. Professional conduct and promoting student learning, participation, and accountability are also emphasized.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Must be certified, licensed, or accredited by NYS, or by an accredited professional trade organization with ASE or NYS Inspector.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Must meet the state of professional trade organization requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective instructional strategies, classroom management and content field.
  • Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent customer service skills
  • High energy level and ability to engage students
  • Ability to quickly learn Job Corps methodologies and strategies
  • Ability to use different methods and mediums in delivering course material
  • Ability to effectively respond to student issues as they arise

  • Technical abilities
  • Must be proficient in the use of common computer software (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.).
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds for short periods during the workday
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl for very short periods during the workday
  • Must be able to talk, see, hear, concentrate, think, learn, and reason for all of the workday
  • Must be able to sit and walk or otherwise move around for prolonged periods throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to use a keyboard and do manual tasks for prolonged periods throughout the workday.

Responsibilities

  • Provide students with industry-recognized instruction and training.
  • Develops and prepares lessons, recommends curricula changes, and supplemental materials.
  • Administers and corrects tests; logs and maintains progress and attendance.
  • Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
  • Manages the classroom by moving about the room to tutor, coach, evaluate, and assist each student as the need arises.
  • Motivates and counsels' students in areas of behavior, training, personal problems or study habits.
  • Evaluates and supervise students in an on-the-job training experience.
  • Participates in providing hands-on activities for students in the career preparation program.
  • Provide coaching, technical expertise, and encouragement to the students while allowing them structured opportunities to develop their proficiency.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships and rapport with students, other staff, and community members to ensure that trusting and respectful relationships are built.
  • Ensure standards and goals are met in a given time frame.
  • Assist students in realizing their potential, abilities, and goals by providing, organizing, and delivering class objectives in a clear, concise, orderly manner.
  • Maintain an orderly, controlled, and safe working/learning environment for the students.
  • Ensure training aids, tools, and equipment are maintained and prepared for use in the classroom and lab.
  • Supervise and hold students accountable for their actions and learning.
  • Maintain curriculum accuracy by staying up to date on industry changes, trends, etc.
  • Conduct yourself professionally and accept nothing less from the students.
  • Promote student learning, participation, personal accountability, integrity, good work ethic, etc.
  • Evaluate and communicate performance and progress with the students, supervisors, and other departments as necessary, in a timely fashion, and accurate manner.
