About The Position

The Auto Mechanic Helper is an entry-level position performing maintenance and repairs on automobiles, trucks, and other vehicles. The role includes preventative maintenance, vehicle diagnostics, repairs, and supporting mechanics and working foremen. Unlike the Auto Mechanic position, the helper is not required to have Pennsylvania Safety and Emission Inspection Licenses or a Class A Commercial Driver License with Tanker Endorsement on the date of hire, but must obtain the specified licenses within the first twelve months of employment.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Automotive mechanics trade school certificate or equivalent experience.
Valid Pennsylvania driver's license, which must be maintained.
Obtain the Pennsylvania Safety and Emission Inspection License within six months of hire.
After obtaining the Pennsylvania Safety and Emission Inspection Licenses, obtain a Class A Commercial Driver License with Tanker Endorsement and Class 7 State Inspection License within twelve months of hire.

Responsibilities

Perform preventative maintenance on light-duty vehicles.
Transport vehicles for maintenance, repair, fueling, and washing.
Repair and adjust brakes.
Mount and dismount tires and snow cables.
Repair or replace wiring.
Repair and align front-end assemblies.
Tune up engines and diagnose and repair ignition systems.
Use hand and power tools, precision gauges, electrical instruments, and computers for vehicle diagnostics, equipment updates, and administrative functions such as email, time and labor management, work orders, and parts and diagnostics research.
Assist Auto, Equipment, Air Tool, and Welder Mechanics and Working Foremen as required.
Diagnose roadside breakdowns and make necessary repairs.
Perform other work as operating conditions require.
