About The Position

Under the general direction of the Senior Associate Dean of Students, the Autism Support for College, Education & Neurodiversity Development (ASCEND) Coordinator is responsible for the coordination, implementation, and ongoing operation of a structured support program for students with Autism. The position serves as the primary resource for supporting student recruitment, enrollment, retention, and success through comprehensive advising, case management, and a high-touch developmental coaching model.

Requirements

General knowledge of individual counseling techniques, case management practices, student development theory, and developmental coaching approaches.
Demonstrated knowledge of executive functioning development, self-advocacy, and evidence-based strategies that promote student success, retention, and persistence in higher education.
Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior.
General knowledge of the principles, practices, and trends within the Student Services profession.
Knowledge of research, assessment, interviewing, and information-gathering techniques used to evaluate student needs and program effectiveness.
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.
Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.

Nice To Haves

One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.
A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Higher Education, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.
