About The Position

The Authorization Specialist helps patients obtain timely access to healthcare services by securing and tracking insurance preauthorizations. The role serves as a link between patients, insurance companies, and clinical teams, while providing customer service, maintaining accurate authorization records, protecting confidential patient information, and resolving authorization issues. The specialist also collaborates with multiple departments and helps train new employees on authorization processes and best practices.

Requirements

• High school graduate or GED.
• At least one year of experience in healthcare billing and/or authorization practices.
• General knowledge of the framework, organization, and function of home care.
• Knowledge of healthcare operations and third-party reimbursement.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, and the ability to learn industry-specific software.
• Strong organizational skills, thoroughness, and attention to detail, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Professional appearance and demeanor.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and track preauthorizations, serving as a link between patients, insurance companies, and clinical teams.
• Answer calls and assist staff and insurance representatives.
• Monitor authorization statuses using computer reports and maintain clear, accurate documentation.
• Protect sensitive patient information and maintain confidentiality.
• Collaborate across departments to support clear communication and efficient service delivery.
• Identify and resolve authorization challenges with the supervisor and team.
• Help train new employees on authorization processes and best practices.
