About The Position

James Moore & Co., P.L. is seeking an Audit Director to join their Nonprofit team in their Tallahassee office. This role involves leading complex audit and attest engagements for nonprofit organizations, providing strategic guidance, technical expertise, and ensuring compliance. The Audit Director will act as a trusted advisor, build client relationships, oversee client service delivery, mentor team members, and contribute to practice growth. This position offers an opportunity for an experienced accounting professional to make an impact on mission-driven organizations and advance their career in a collaborative environment. The role also supports business development through networking, relationship building, proposal preparation, and industry event participation. Travel may be required, and the position can be performed remotely, with priority given to candidates living within two hours of their Daytona Beach, Gainesville, or Tallahassee offices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
  • 9+ years of auditing experience, preferably within public accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of auditing standards, financial reporting, and client engagement management.
  • Proven experience leading complex audit engagements and managing client relationships.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and audit engagement software.
  • Proficiency with Co-Pilot or Chat GPT.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Significant experience serving nonprofit organizations, foundations, associations, educational institutions, grant-funded human service agencies or other tax-exempt entities.
  • 3+ years of client management experience.
  • 7+ years of leadership experience
  • Experience with CCH ProSystem fx Engagement, CaseWare or similar audit software.
  • Experience with GASB

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of nonprofit audit and attest clients, delivering exceptional service tailored to each organization's mission and operational needs.
  • Serve as the primary advisor and escalation point for accounting, auditing, and compliance matters.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with executive directors, CEOs, finance committees, and boards of directors.
  • Identify opportunities to provide additional value-added services and strengthen long-term client partnerships.
  • Lead audits and attest engagements in compliance with professional standards and nonprofit industry requirements.
  • Perform final technical and quality control reviews of engagement workpapers and deliverables.
  • Stay current on accounting and auditing developments affecting nonprofit organizations, including Uniform Guidance, federal grant compliance, and nonprofit financial reporting.
  • Leverage technology and audit tools to improve efficiency and enhance client outcomes.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop managers, supervisors, and staff.
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and employee development initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Assist in developing and delivering internal training and continuing professional education programs.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership to drive growth, profitability, innovation, and operational excellence.
  • Support business development efforts through networking, industry involvement, and relationship building within the nonprofit community.
  • Participate in firm-wide initiatives, committees, and strategic projects.
  • Help establish and execute growth strategies for the nonprofit audit practice.
