About The Position

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has an exciting opportunity for an attorney to join our team and provide legal support to DHHS’ general operational needs, with a primary focus on employment and labor law. Primary responsibilities include providing advice and counsel to management and programs as part of Legal Services’ Operations Team to include representing DHHS in employment matters. Other duties may include developing responses to tort/contract/miscellaneous claims made against DHHS, collecting debt on behalf of DHHS, compliance, procurement and contracting, discovery, and public records responses and retention.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of law and admission to the Nebraska Bar (Attorney I)
  • One year of experience as an attorney practicing law and providing legal services such as preparing cases, advising clients, and/or interpreting laws or administrative policies (Attorney II)
  • Three years of experience as an attorney practicing law and providing legal services such as preparing and trying cases, advising clients, and/or interpreting laws or administrative policies (Attorney III)
  • Admission to the Nebraska Bar (Legal Requirement)
  • Candidates who will graduate with the minimum qualifications by May of 2026 that are taking the July, 2026 bar exam that will be sworn in during September, 2026 will be considered.
  • Candidates admitted to the bar in another jurisdiction eligible to be admitted to the Nebraska Bar by Motion contingent upon them becoming admitted to the Nebraska Bar will be considered.
