The Attorney 1/2 position serves as a fact finder/decision maker in unemployment insurance appeals. The primary responsibility is to conduct adversarial, evidentiary hearings and issue timely, well-reasoned, and binding decisions on the issues presented in each appeal. Successful performance requires strong organization, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize competing demands while maintaining the quality and timeliness of decisions. OUIA oversees Louisiana’s Unemployment Insurance (UI) program, which provides temporary financial assistance to eligible workers who are unemployed through no fault of their own. The office manages the full UI lifecycle, including employer tax collection, benefit claims processing, fraud prevention, and appeals.
