About The Position

The Enotah Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Assistant Public Defender 1 serving White County. The Assistant Public Defender 1 will represent indigent clients in criminal matters in Superior Court. This role requires a strong commitment to public defense and the ability to manage complex cases from preparation through trial or resolution. This Assistant Public Defender will be responsible for preparing and presenting cases and entering pleas, conducting legal research, preparing and presenting complex documents, pleading compilation, orders, etc. Applicants must be a current member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia. Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university.
  • License to practice law in the State of Georgia or eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring or reciprocity (must obtain Law License).
  • Current member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia.

Responsibilities

  • Provide competent, diligent, and zealous legal representation to indigent clients.
  • Serve as an experienced attorney handling serious and complex felony cases.
  • Manage case strategy, investigation, motion practice, trial preparation, and courtroom advocacy.
  • Prepare and present cases and enter pleas.
  • Conduct legal research.
  • Prepare and present complex documents, pleading compilation, orders, etc.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
