The New Jersey Judiciary, Supreme Court Clerk’s Office, is seeking an experienced attorney with excellent legal writing, analytic, and communication skills to serve the Supreme Court under the direction of the Clerk of Court and other executive leaders within the Clerk’s Office.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an American Bar Association-approved law school
  • Three years of experience as an Attorney-at-Law performing legal research and analyzing and evaluating legal documents, rules, regulations, and/or legislation.
  • Attorney-at-Law with a plenary license in the State of New Jersey and having Supreme Court Good Standing Status of Active.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience as a Judicial Law Clerk may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Draft memos to the Court on complex procedural and substantive legal issues raised in petitions for certification and motions in litigated cases
  • Draft memos to the Court on complex attorney disciplinary matters
  • Process emergent applications from intake through disposition, including the provision of legal analysis and support to members of the Court on an expedited basis
  • Provide guidance to judiciary staff, attorneys, and members of the public regarding Supreme Court practice and procedure
  • Staff Supreme Court committees
  • Prepare summaries of opinions and pending appeals
  • Undertake additional assignments as directed by the Court, the Clerk, Deputy Clerk/Chief Counsel, Deputy Counsel, or other managerial personnel
