Attorney - Estate Planning Lead
About The Position
Legacy Law Firm, P.C. is opening a new Johnston, Iowa office and seeks an attorney to lead estate-planning work there. The firm is a boutique practice focused on estate planning, elder law, and business planning, serving families, business owners, farmers, and high-net-worth individuals. It creates customized plans to facilitate wealth transfer, preserve family harmony, and minimize clients’ tax burden. The attorney will meet with clients, develop estate plans, and draft core planning documents. The role includes collaborating with experienced attorneys in Sioux Falls on advanced estate, tax, and business strategies. Mentoring will be primarily remote, so the attorney should be able to handle trusts and core estate-planning documents independently from the start. As the Johnston office is new, the attorney will also build relationships with local clients and professional referral partners, guide support staff, and help maintain consistent workflows and client-service standards across both offices. Compensation is $90,000 to $150,000, commensurate with experience, with a yearly performance bonus of up to 3% of salary. Requirements
- At least 1 year of estate-planning experience, including trusts.
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in Iowa.
- Excellent analytical, drafting, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Leadership ability and the ability to manage cases without daily oversight.
- Strong attention to detail and outstanding organizational abilities.
- Collaborative mindset and commitment to exceptional client service.
- Desire to build a long-term career and work as part of a collaborative team.

- Educational background or professional experience in accounting, taxation, finance, business, or a related field.
Responsibilities
- Meet with individuals, families, business owners, and farmers to design customized estate plans.
- Draft wills, trusts, powers of attorney, business succession plans, and related estate-planning documents.
- Collaborate with senior attorneys on advanced estate, tax, and business-planning strategies.
- Build trusted relationships with clients and professional referral partners in the Johnston area.
- Help establish the Johnston office’s legal workflow and client-service standards.
- Guide support staff.
- Stay in close contact with the Sioux Falls team so both offices operate consistently.
