About The Position
Legacy Law Firm, P.C. is opening a new office in Johnston, Iowa, and seeks an attorney to serve individuals, families, business owners, and agricultural clients. The attorney will design and implement customized estate plans and work with experienced attorneys in Sioux Falls on advanced estate, tax, and business planning. Since most mentoring will occur remotely, the attorney should be comfortable handling trusts and core estate-planning documents independently from the start. The role also involves helping establish the Johnston office by building relationships with clients and professional referral partners in the area. The attorney will help maintain the office’s legal workflow and client-service standards and guide support staff. The firm describes its practice as focused exclusively on estate planning, elder law, and business planning, with a collaborative culture, mentoring, flexible scheduling options, and opportunities for leadership and career growth.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of estate-planning experience, including trusts.
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in Iowa.
- Leadership ability and the drive to manage cases without daily oversight.
- Excellent analytical, drafting, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and outstanding organizational abilities.
- Collaborative mindset and commitment to exceptional client service.
- Desire to build a long-term career and work as part of a collaborative team.

- Educational background or professional experience in accounting, taxation, finance, business, or a related field.
Responsibilities
- Meet with individuals, families, business owners, and farmers to design customized estate plans.
- Draft wills, trusts, powers of attorney, business succession plans, and related estate-planning documents.
- Collaborate with senior attorneys on advanced estate, tax, and business-planning strategies.
- Build trusted relationships with clients and professional referral partners.
- Help manage the Johnston office’s legal workflow and client-service standards.
- Guide support staff.
- Stay in close contact with the Sioux Falls team so both offices run consistently.

- Salary of $90,000 to $150,000, commensurate with experience.
