About The Position

This classification performs work that involves a variety of detailed clerical duties for the Supreme Court Attorney Services Division. Responsibilities may include responding to requests from attorneys for assistance with annual licensure requirements; obtaining records from applicants for admission to the Nebraska state bar; maintaining attorney admission and licensure records; preparing and administering the Nebraska Bar Exam; and assisting the Director of Admissions in carrying out duties for the State Bar Commission.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • Experience in government office, higher-education office, law office, or sufficient experience to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
  • Knowledge of written and verbal English; Computers and applicable software applications.
  • Writing and communicating in English; Maintaining records and files; Preparing legal documents; Operating computers and applicable software applications; Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive work direction.
  • Assembling and organizing data and information.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree, bachelor's degree, or a paralegal certificate.
  • Have the ability to work more than 20 hours per week during the administration of the Bar Exam and dates associated with attorney license renewal deadlines.
  • Substantive customer service receptionist or secretarial work experience as well as substantive experience in either a professional or academic admissions office, regulatory government agency, or other setting involving licensure.
  • Experience handling and maintaining confidential records.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support in response to inquires about attorney admission via phone, email or in-person; directs inquires to appropriate departments.
  • Prepares Certificates of Authority for professional organizations organized for the purpose of conducting the practice of law in the State of Nebraska.
  • Maintains files on bar admissions, suspensions, disbarments, and senior certified letters; sends notice to applicants of success or failure after examination and notices of suspensions and reinstatements; and prepares agenda, list of applicants and chair labels for swearing in ceremonies.
  • Prepare Certificates of Good Standing for members of the Nebraska State Bar.
  • Assists in the maintenance of the Attorney Services Website and associated project list for the website vendor.
  • Assists in the preparation and administration of the Nebraska State Bar Exam.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
