About The Position

Guided by the agency's mission "To reduce recidivism among those we touch," the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction and the Division of Parole & Community Services are looking for a dedicated security-minded criminal justice professional to assume the duties and responsibilities of an Attorney 2 located in Lorain County. All external candidates must start at Step 1. At six months of employment, you will proceed to Step 2. At each subsequent year, you will move to the next pay step as indicated below. Step 1: $30.55 Step 2\: $31.88 Step 3 \: $33.52 Step 4: $35.15 Step 5 \: $36.90 Step 6 \: $38.70 Step 7\: $40.59 Step 8 \: $42.62 Step 9 \: $44.74 All new hires must complete a 365-day probationary period. What You’ll Do\: As a Violation Hearing Attorney, you will perform such duties as\: Works under direction and requires considerable knowledge of substantive & procedural law to provide legal advice and consultation. Develops and presents cases and testimony at revocation and violation hearings on behalf of the Adult Parole Authority (APA) for parolees or other releasees who have been charged with violating conditions of their community supervision. Interprets legal issues regarding the violation process. Reviews evidence, documents, records, and reports to be presented at hearings and makes determinations regarding subpoenas to be issued. Interacts and corresponds with witnesses, defense attorneys, law enforcement officials, prosecutors and other criminal justice officials in preparation for violation hearings. Interviews inmates, releasees and witnesses. Examines and cross examines witnesses. Prepares and submits legal pleadings and memoranda. Reviews and evaluates reports to make recommendations regarding community sanctions or confinement. Conducts legal research. Reviews agency programs and policies for legal implication and drafts new policies. Prepares reports and maintains records and metrics. Maintains security of confidential records Responds to inquiries and correspondence to include public record requests from members of community and various other criminal justice systems. Requires extensive travel and may require overnight stays. Attends meetings, trainings and conferences. May give presentations and conduct training. Works on special projects and/or committees as assigned. Must conduct oneself professionally and in a law-abiding manner at all times in accordance with Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction Standards of Employee Conduct.
