About The Position

The University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School (UMass Chan) is seeking a full-time (40 hours per-week) board-certified/board-eligible child and adolescent psychiatrist to serve the Adolescent Continuing Care Unit (ACCU) at the Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH) in Worcester, MA. WRCH is a Department of Mental Health (DMH) state-of-the-art hospital that cares for adults and adolescents and their families with severe mental health conditions. The ACCU is both part of WRCH and the statewide Department of Mental Health Child, Youth, and Families (CYF) Services. The selected candidate will be recommended for a UMass Chan faculty appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor based on qualifications. Academic Opportunities include supervision of child and adolescent psychiatry fellows, psychiatry residents and medical students, and the opportunity to be involved in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship. The department offers support for leadership training, research, and other academic endeavors through various UMass Chan-sponsored programs. Various CME activities are available, including grand rounds, journal clubs, law and psychiatry lectures, and DMH-sponsored trainings, workshops and events.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric care to adolescents admitted to the ACCU.
  • Develop and oversee treatment plans for adolescents with complex mental health conditions, including those at risk of or demonstrating self-harm or harm to others.
  • Provide individualized, strength-based, trauma-informed, and trauma-responsive psychiatric care.
  • Support recovery by collaborating with youth, their legally authorized representatives/families, and appropriate collateral care team members to ensure treatment is active and facilitates movement to the least restrictive environment as soon as clinically appropriate.
  • Deliver psychiatry and psychopharmacology services aligned with current best practices and evidence-based standards for adolescent care.
  • Participate, as needed, in forensic evaluations for youth admitted under legal/forensic status (e.g., evaluations of competency or criminal responsibility) and provide court testimony when required.
