About The Position

Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for the position of Attendance/Administrative Office Clerk located at Choptank Elementary School. This position is a 10-month, seven (7) hours a day, full-time position with benefits. The successful candidate must be a team player, while also being a self-starter, able to work independently, and handle confidential information in a fast-paced school office environment. This position contributes to the efficient and effective operation of the assigned school office by performing clerical and administrative tasks as a necessary function of the office. This position serves as an attendance and guidance liaison with the department of Student Services.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. certificate
  • Proficiency in typing, computer and word processing skills, including PowerPoint, Word and Excel, office practices, business English and business mathematics.
  • Two (2) years of successful secretarial experience with increasing responsibilities.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Excellent human relations skills.
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.

Nice To Haves

  • A.A degree in related area preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains accurate database of student records and attendance records.
  • Maintains daily attendance records and communicates attendance information to staff, parents, students and home school.
  • Serves as registrar for student log entries.
  • Meets and assists visitors.
  • Maintains a regular filing system, as well as a set of confidential files and processes incoming correspondence as instructed.
  • Places, receives, and directs telephone calls, takes messages.
  • Maintains a schedule of appointments and make arrangements for conferences/meetings with families, and the home school of students in the program.
  • Obtains, gathers and organizes pertinent data as needed and puts it into usable form.
  • Composes and types routine correspondence and reports for review and approval of the supervisor.
  • Types correspondence, reports, notices, and memorandums from draft form, which may include dictation from recordings.
  • Use sound judgment in dealing with confidential information.
  • Prepare agenda and assemble materials for meetings and trainings.
  • Addresses parental concerns with tact and empathy and accurately routes their request(s) when appropriate.
  • Orders and maintains supplies as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned consistent with program requirements, and as assigned by school administration.
