About The Position

Western High School is seeking a Head Varsity Competitive Cheer Coach. This role involves organizing and supervising a total sports program, requiring substantial knowledge of the sport's technical aspects and a commitment to staying updated on new theories and procedures. The coach will serve as a role model for student athletes, instructing them in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training to achieve individual and team success. Additionally, the coach is responsible for fostering socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride in accomplishment. The success of athletic programs significantly influences the community's image, and while community/parent pressure for winning is acknowledged, it must not override objectives of good sportsmanship and mental health. The position may involve extended time, risk of injury, and due process considerations. The coach is expected to exercise common sense and good judgment in situations not specifically covered.

Requirements

  • Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
  • Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport.
  • Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport.
  • Ability to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
  • Serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes.
  • Thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Western School District Board of Education.
  • Knowledge of existing system, state, and league regulations.
  • Understanding of the proper administrative line of command.
  • Awareness of all public/staff/departmental meetings requiring attendance.
  • Ability to establish fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by staff.
  • Ability to design conferences, clinics, and staff meetings.
  • Ability to train and inform staff, encouraging professional growth.
  • Ability to delegate specific duties, supervise implementation, and evaluate assistants.
  • Ability to maintain discipline, adjust grievances, and increase morale and cooperation.
  • Ability to assist the athletic director in scheduling, transportation, and requirements for events.
  • Ability to prepare for scheduled sport events or practices and adhere to facility times.
  • Ability to coordinate the program with maintenance and school employees.
  • Ability to provide documentation for physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
  • Ability to ensure proper safeguards for equipment and sites.
  • Ability to advise the athletic director and recommend policy, method, or procedural changes.
  • Ability to serve as a mentor to promote positive character traits in student athletes.
  • Ability to give constant attention to student athletes' grades and conduct.
  • Ability to provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant.
  • Ability to communicate training rules and sport-specific regulations to athletes.
  • Ability to initiate programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies.
  • Ability to complete and submit paperwork for disabling athletic injuries.
  • Ability to direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
  • Ability to determine discipline, delineate due process procedures, and contact parents regarding ineligibility.
  • Ability to assist athletes in their college or advanced educational selection.
  • Ability to participate in budgeting with the athletic director.

  • Ability to monitor equipment rooms and coaches' offices, authorizing access.
  • Ability to permit athletes in authorized areas at appropriate times.
  • Ability to examine locker rooms for cleanliness.
  • Ability to ensure cleanliness and maintenance of specific sport equipment.
  • Ability to secure building doors, lights, windows, and locks.
  • Ability to instill respect for equipment and school property in players.
  • Ability to organize parents, coaches, players, and guests for preseason meetings.
  • Ability to promote the sport within the school and community.
  • Ability to ensure the quality, effectiveness, and validity of releases to local media.
  • Ability to maintain good public relations with news media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
  • Ability to present information to news media concerning schedules, tournaments, and results.
