About The Position

This position is for an Athletic Trainer at AHMG Rothman Orthopedics in Winter Haven. The role involves a variety of patient care responsibilities, including pre-operative and post-operative patient management, documentation, patient education, and assisting physicians. The Athletic Trainer will also be involved in clinical support, such as maintaining patient flow and conducting physical examinations. A key aspect of the role includes providing coverage and assistance at collegiate and professional sporting events.

Requirements

  • Medical Office procedures and medical terminology [Required]
  • Computer skills including, but not limited to, MS Office [Required]
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited professional athletic training education program [Required]
  • BOC (Board of Certification) passing exam score [Required]
  • 2+ years of experience in orthopedics [Required]
  • Athletic Trainer Certified (ATC) [Required]
  • Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree [Preferred]

Responsibilities

  • Obtains pre-certification for prescription drugs.
  • Makes pre-operative calls to discuss discharge plans, obtain patient information, and answer questions.
  • Makes post-operative calls within two weeks of surgery, using clinical judgment to direct care based on shared information.
  • Previews charts pre-operatively, documenting pertinent information including surgical clearances.
  • Collates, distributes, and discusses post-op discharge instructions with patients and referring physicians.
  • Discusses patient care and necessary home equipment with homecare nurses and arranges medical supplies.
  • Assists medical assistants in maintaining patient flow and reviews physician schedules.
  • Performs patient intake and conducts physical examinations.
  • E-Prescribes, writes (with physician's signature), faxes, and/or phones in prescriptions per practice protocols.
  • Examines post-operative patients and performs wound checks for infections.
  • Assists physician at collegiate and professional sporting events and providing field coverage.
  • Assists during hospital rounds and liaises between physician and outside consulting physicians.
  • Other duties as assigned.
