This position involves supporting the Sports Orthopedic clinical and educational programs. The Athletic Trainer will implement injury prevention strategies, provide emergency care and first aid, evaluate athletic injuries, and implement therapeutic reconditioning programs in schools. Responsibilities include providing school sports coverage, developing and evaluating educational programs, and assisting with program development and compliance. The role also involves community outreach and education, acting as a liaison between schools and NYU Langone Sports Health.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training from an Accredited Athletic Training Program (CAATE) Required.
  • Current and valid NYS Department of Education Athletic Training License Required.
  • Certification through the Athletic Training Board of Certification (BOC) Required.
  • CPR and AED Certification Required.
  • Strong communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to work independently, interact with, and communicate effectively with athletes, parents, coaching staff, school administrators, and other medical professionals.
  • Ability to effectively manage emergency situations relevant to the position.
  • Knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, email, etc.).
  • Minimum 1-2 years work-related experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree from a program in athletic training
  • 5 years work-related experience
  • CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach), CSCCA, ACSM or equivalent certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Provides athletic training services for contracted schools.
  • Performs initial on-field assessment of acute injuries and illnesses during games or practices.
  • Provides first-aid and triage for athlete injuries/illnesses, monitors them, and coordinates evaluation and follow-up.
  • Assists athletes in implementing home exercise programs as prescribed by their physician or healthcare professional.
  • Follows proper medical practices, using medical, social, and psychological information to establish goals for athletes.
  • Reviews cases and confers with physicians and other medical professionals when necessary.
  • Maintains all equipment used during treatments.
  • Understands and properly implements the required treatment for each patient.
  • Monitors and assesses patient status to plan a course of treatment correctly.
  • Provides proper documentation for all treatments rendered and maintains appropriate work records.
  • Maintains confidentiality of athletic injury/illness information, adhering to HIPAA and FERPA guidelines.
  • Defines and adheres to standardized nomenclature, measurement, and reporting.
  • Assists school/school district with the implementation and yearly re-evaluation of school athletic policies (e.g., EAPs, Concussion Management, Standing Orders).
  • Works in coordination with CMO, School Nurse, and AD regarding the health and wellness of student athletes.
  • Provides advice to athletes, parents, and coaching staff regarding injury prevention, health, wellness, and flexibility training.
  • Assists in the preparation, selection, and fitting of protective equipment and pre-injury screening.
  • Participates in pre-season parent/coach/athlete meetings.
  • Provides off-site clinical services/event coverage, evaluating and treating offsite injuries and reporting findings to the organization/school medical team.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation for off-site services.
  • Facilitates pre-participation exams.
  • Reliably follows through with assignments on schedule, adheres to proper work schedule, reports for event coverage and meetings at designated times, gives proper notice of absences and lateness, accepts policies and their modifications, and is willing to cover sporting events after hours if needed.
  • Acts as a liaison between schools, universities, colleges, sports leagues, and sports organizations for community outreach and education.
  • Works with the chief of primary care sports medicine, athletic trainer coordinator, and department director on maintaining and developing relationships.
  • Develops and conducts various educational programs for educational and sports organizations.
  • Acts as an extension of NYU Langone Sports Health by discussing services and promoting branding and name recognition.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the organization's Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
  • Other responsibilities as needed.
