Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in athletic training
- BOC Certified athletic trainer
- New York State athletic-training license (or proof of application in process)
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification
Responsibilities
- Assist with day-to-day athletic training room/practice coverage (travel required depending on sport)
- Provide onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses including prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation
- Communicate with physicians and coaches regarding injury status of athletes
- Assess risk of injury, self-care implementation, and overall wellness promotion
- Document all athlete encounters
- Coordinate and implement injury prevention programs and customized preventative strategies and programs to each athlete
- Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education, and prevention strategies
- Assist in physical therapy clinics as aides
- Observe with physical therapists to foster learning and develop relationships
- Receive mentorship from Sports Physical Therapists in areas of development and case review of athletes
- Assist physical therapy patients in the performance of therapeutic exercises as directed by a physical therapist
- Communicate with HSS physicians providing coverage for St. John’s Athletics
- Engage with HSS Rehabilitation & Performance educational offerings
