Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in athletic training
  • BOC Certified athletic trainer
  • New York State athletic-training license (or proof of application in process)
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification

Responsibilities

  • Assist with day-to-day athletic training room/practice coverage (travel required depending on sport)
  • Provide onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses including prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation
  • Communicate with physicians and coaches regarding injury status of athletes
  • Assess risk of injury, self-care implementation, and overall wellness promotion
  • Document all athlete encounters
  • Coordinate and implement injury prevention programs and customized preventative strategies and programs to each athlete
  • Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education, and prevention strategies
  • Assist in physical therapy clinics as aides
  • Observe with physical therapists to foster learning and develop relationships
  • Receive mentorship from Sports Physical Therapists in areas of development and case review of athletes
  • Assist physical therapy patients in the performance of therapeutic exercises as directed by a physical therapist
  • Communicate with HSS physicians providing coverage for St. John’s Athletics
  • Engage with HSS Rehabilitation & Performance educational offerings
