About The Position

This is an outreach position to work with partner schools and programs, distinct from a clinical role. The athletic trainer will assist in all aspects of the Sports Medicine program through daily clinical operations and patient care. This includes patient rooming and triage, communication between patient families and physicians, and coordinating care within the NCH system and externally. The role involves developing professional relationships with patients and families, delivering high customer service, and seeking improvements in clinical and rehabilitative services. Key priorities include daily clinical coverage, patient education, department operations, community partner engagement, and occasional community event coverage. The standard of care requires knowledge of age-appropriate practices for pediatric and adolescent sports medicine and active populations. Requirements

  • Licensed as an Athletic Trainer in the State of Ohio
  • BOC Certified
  • CPR certification
  • Microsoft Office
  • EMR
  • 3 years of clinical athletic training experience in a hospital setting highly preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists physicians in the delivery of high-quality patient care through efficient rooming of patients, skilled history taking, placing appropriate x-ray orders according to approved LPIPs, fitting braces and casts as ordered by physicians, constructing home exercise programs, or other duties as requested by the physician.
  • Maintains proper documentation in accordance with hospital standards and assists with the development and maintenance of reports for the Sports Medicine Program.
  • Maintains open lines of communication with physicians and other members of the health care team on all patients to ensure high quality patient care.
  • Reviews the utilization of services and patient progress with Sports Medicine physician.
  • Completes annual department required training, keeping abreast of all policy and procedural changes for clinical care and taking responsibility to become competent with any techniques used in clinic and patient care.
  • Assists physicians with in-clinic procedures including, but not limited to, pulmonary function testing, exertional compartment syndrome testing, musculoskeletal ultrasound, and musculoskeletal injections/aspirations.
  • Assists with the coordination of clinical care for sports medicine patients through the NCH system and with consulting physicians.
