About The Position

USC Athletics is seeking an Athletic Fields Supervisor to join their team, specifically supporting Dedeaux Field. This role is for individuals passionate about stadium fields and athletic grounds who take pride in creating the best possible environment for athletes and spectators. The supervisor will lead a team to ensure the highest quality fields for training, collegiality, and competition, while also ensuring a clean and accommodating space for fans. The position requires dedication and enthusiasm to support the athletes and fans.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 years of experience.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of athletic fields maintenance with progressive leadership/management/supervision experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of sports turf maintenance with knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Valid CA driver's license required.
  • Position will participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System.
  • A copy of DMV record will be required as a final condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s Degree.
  • 7 years of experience within a college/university environment.
  • Knowledge of UPC and/or HSC campuses.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise athletic fields staff, including screening, interviewing, hiring, training, counseling, disciplining, and providing performance feedback and appraisals.
  • Determine and/or recommend unit salary administration, including raises, promotions, and reclassifications.
  • Assess athletic fields maintenance workload and schedule staff accordingly.
  • Develop, plan, and implement annual renovation and maintenance programs for athletic fields to optimize turf play quality.
  • Determine staffing needs for peak volumes and/or special projects and arrange for temporary workers.
  • Authorize overtime as appropriate.
  • Ensure staff is adequately trained and cross-trained to promote continuity of operations.
  • Train and support staff and team leader(s).
  • Integrate the Pay for Skills program, providing forms, supplies, scheduling training, and giving/receiving feedback for staff training and development.
  • Verify completion of Pay for Skills training requirements.
  • Monitor workflow for efficiency and timeliness, setting priorities based on landscape conditions, weather, and special events.
  • Review work for quality, completion, accuracy, and adherence to internal operating policies and procedures, addressing problems and errors, and providing feedback.
  • Provide technical assistance to staff for training and problem-solving.
  • Provide background and interpretation of departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Determine costs of equipment, materials, and supplies and price accordingly.
  • Order materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Liaise with vendors on issues related to products, services, and delivery.
  • Maintain specialized equipment and provide training for staff and/or student workers on its utilization.
  • Make minor repairs and/or coordinate with vendors for preventive maintenance, repairs, and/or enhancements.
  • Research and prepare recommendations for acquisitions of specialized equipment.
  • Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and internal systems that support the work of the unit.
  • Define needs and coordinate the development of manual and/or automated systems to facilitate workflow.
  • Ensure records are kept up-to-date and maintained in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Maintain unit statistics on productivity and generate reports for management review.
  • Prepare standing and/or ad hoc reports for management, gathering data, determining report format, and generating information.
  • Plan and administer income and expense budgets, develop projections, track actual income and expenses, and adjust operating plans to address variances.
  • Secure all athletic facilities and fields to ensure proper use.
  • Contact Department of Public Safety to report unauthorized usage and personnel.
  • Develop and implement security-related procedures such as office opening and closing routines, recognition of duress signals, and key controls.
  • Coordinate security activities with Department of Public Safety.
  • Promote and maintain standards for security-conscious awareness and behavior.
  • Maintain knowledge of University's crime prevention and suppression programs and services.
  • Ensure dissemination of security-related information to staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
