About The Position

Under general supervision, the employee coordinates all athletic programs within the assigned school. This role involves managing schedules, supervising staff, ensuring facility readiness, and overseeing the welfare and eligibility of athletes. The Athletic Director also serves as a liaison for media relations, coordinates athletic functions, and manages the purchase and maintenance of equipment and uniforms. Additionally, the position involves budget planning, special event coordination, social media oversight, and ensuring compliance with all relevant rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five years coaching experience at the high school level preferred.
  • Must be willing to obtain and/or hold a valid NC CDL bus driving license.
  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, etc.
  • Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people or things.
  • Ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, articles, proposals, contracts, etc.
  • Ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, evaluations, policies, etc. using prescribed formats.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide; utilize decimals and percentages; and to apply the principles of descriptive statistics, statistical inference and statistical theory.
  • Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
  • Adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
  • Must possess administrative, organizational and financial skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of athletic policy and procedure.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all athletic schedules with NCHSAA Commissioners and/or conference presidents.
  • Assign and supervise gatekeepers and workers for athletic events.
  • Examine playing arenas for availability and readiness.
  • Obtain playing arenas for practice or game sites.
  • Confirm availability of sports equipment.
  • Ensure a game day administrator is present and trained for all home games.
  • Arrange payment for all game officials.
  • Arrange for change needed for gatekeepers, including providing change boxes, tickets, and stamps.
  • Ensure pay apps are ready for spectator admission.
  • Coordinate tournaments and post-season games with the principal.
  • Coordinate the welfare of all athletes with the principal.
  • Verify the eligibility of all athletes.
  • Suggest monetary allowances for athletes and coaches for overnight lodging and food.
  • Ensure physical examinations for all athletes are completed.
  • Work with coaches and the principal to certify athlete eligibility prior to participation.
  • Work with the principal and school SRO to secure law enforcement for security at athletic contests.
  • Coordinate athletic functions such as booster club meetings, athletic banquets, and other athletic meetings.
  • Coordinate the attendance of coaches at clinics and workshops.
  • Serve as public relations liaison for routine news media requests related to athletics.
  • Coordinate with the principal any postponement of contests due to weather or other factors.
  • Work with coaches in solving morale problems.
  • Serve as a booster of the school's athletic program.
  • Offer constructive criticism to fellow coaches and provide meaningful feedback.
  • Coordinate the purchase, reconditioning, and storage of athletic equipment and uniforms.
  • Coordinate preparation for all home contests and events, and supervise or direct cleanup afterward.
  • Coordinate transportation for all athletic events requiring travel.
  • Provide assistance in planning a budget.
  • Serve as director of special events and promotions for the athletic department.
  • Oversee the social media account for the athletic program.
  • Work closely with the Clover Garden School Assistant Athletic Director.
  • Schedule and conduct pre-season meetings for all sports as required by the NCHSAA.
  • Submit athletic eligibility summary and pre-season meeting certification to the NCHSAA.
  • Ensure all coaches are aware of CGS, NCHSAA, and NFHS rules and expectations.
  • Ensure compliance with all CGS, NCHSAA, and NFHS rules.
  • Work with athletic boosters to develop a supplement plan for paying coaches.
  • Submit work orders for necessary facility repairs or routine maintenance.
  • Provide booking agents with a complete schedule prior to the season.
  • Work with the principal in finding new coaches as openings occur.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.
