About The Position

This position is for an Athletic Coach - Assistant Basketball (Girls) for the 2026-2027 school year at Gonzales. The coach will report to the Principal/Athletics Director and will be responsible for developing student-athletes and team success through sport-specific training and event participation. Students will be provided a positive in-season sport experience and develop physically during department-guided off-season training. All positions with Santa Fe Public Schools require a post-offer/pre-employment background check, and some positions have additional requirements as established by federal or state rules and regulations.

Requirements

• Applicant must meet all NMAA/PED requirements for Coaching Licensure.
• High School graduation.
• Must be able to fully perform the duties associated with coaching: lift 50 pounds, carry items to sites.
• Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
• Basic computer skills and ability to use Microsoft and Google software tools.
• Reliability as evidenced by attendance records and punctuality.
• Properly notifies supervisor and/or designee of absences or tardiness.
• Begins and completes work within the allotted time.
• Consistently appears in attire appropriate to the work environment.
• Demonstrates skill in the use of equipment including its capabilities, limitations and appropriate/ special application.
• Protects the district’s resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment.
• Utilizes appropriate body mechanics to aid in the prevention of muscle strain/injury.

Nice To Haves

• College degree with prior high school coaching experience.
• Two years sport-specific participation/training/and/or prior coaching experience at the high school level or above.
• Bilingual in English-Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Develop student-athletes and team success through sport-specific training and event participation.
• Provide students with a positive in-season sport experience.
• Develop students physically during department-guided off-season training.
• Teach the sport by using the Six Pillars of Sportsmanship-Respect, Integrity, Honesty, Teamwork, Leadership and Personal Responsibility.
• Manage and inventory sport-specific equipment.
• Maintain professional relations/communications with supervisor, parents, student-athletes, the media, boosters, officials, and co-workers.
• Maintain and fulfill MaxPreps and NMAA requirements using computer.
