About The Position

Bemidji State University (BSU) invites qualified applicants to join our team as a Fixed-Term Assistant or Associate Professor of Education. This unique position will serve our newly established Indigenous-focused Field Based Apprenticeship Elementary Education Teacher Preparation program. The applicant will be required to travel a radius up to 150 miles from Bemidji to meet with students and teachers working in multiple school districts. Applicants will also be expected to teach Education courses as needed in-person and online. The School of Education is one of the most prestigious and storied programs at Bemidji State University. For over 100 years, students have been learning what it takes to become a licensed teacher, and they influence their own students for many years to come. Faculty are experienced and passionate about student success. The School of Education offers undergraduate and graduate teacher licensure through campus, distance, and apprenticeship/field-based programs. Responsibilities of the Assistant/Associate Professor will include: Field Based Indigenous Language Coordination: Facilitate communication between multiple program leaders which include: BSU Office of Teacher Education, Teacher Apprenticeship Minnesota, Indigenous organizations involved with program development, and School of Education at Bemidji State University. Attend Design Team meetings and contribute to program development for on-the-job school work including collaborating on creating a “program workbook.” Design and deliver online courses with Desire to Learn (D2L) Brightspace software. Support data monitoring between systems such as D2L Brightspace and SL & L (Bemidji State University) and Proserva (Teacher Apprenticeship Minnesota). Collaborate with Bemidji State University faculty in developing a shared D2L course with semester course content. Assist in student planning for course and degree completion. Support grant applications, implementation, and reporting (MDE). The applicant must be able to travel within a 150-mile radius of Bemidji, MN to Northern MN school districts. Course Instruction: Teaching Standards of Effective Practice (SEPs) courses. The applicant would be expected to teach courses that include but are not limited to: ED 2110 Educational Field Based Experience, ED 3140 Human Diversity and Educational Equity, ED 2300 Field Based Inservice 1, ED 3350 Principles and Strategies of Teaching, and ED 3780 Inclusive Teaching. Delivering courses for on-campus and online delivery, as needed. Additional Responsibilities: Advising and supporting students’ academic progress. Pursuing scholarly and/or creative activities. Contributing to a collegial and supportive environment that advances the goals of the department, including curriculum development, assessment, and other departmental governance activities. Contributing to interdisciplinary teaching and involvement in activities that support BSU’s Shared Fundamental Values. Assist with programmatic accreditation and PELSB licensure requirements.

Requirements

  • Has a graduate degree in Education or similar degree
  • In accordance with PELSB Teacher Preparation Program and Unit Approval Standard 24; The individual (a) holds a master's degree or higher in any field and has at least 18 graduate credits aligned to the content area of instruction; has completed a dissertation or published peer-reviewed research in the teacher educator's area of instruction; or has completed a state-approved teacher preparation program aligned to the content area of instruction; and (b) has three years of experience as a teacher of record, including at least one year aligned to the scope and content area of instruction OR The individual holds a bachelor's degree in any field; has completed a state-approved teacher preparation program; and has seven years of experience as a teacher of record, including at least three years aligned to the scope and content area of instruction.
  • At least one of the components listed in units (a) and (b) must align to the content area of instruction.
  • All applicants must be able to lawfully accept employment in the United States at the time of an offer of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Content area of instruction in elementary education and holds a state-issued k-6 Elementary Education license.
  • A demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism.
  • Background in teaching or collaborating with Indigenous programs and students.
  • One (1) or more years' experience teaching at the post-secondary level.
  • Holds or is nearly finished with a PhD or advanced degree in Education or a related field
