About The Position

The Port of Virginia – Virginia Port Authority is seeking an Assistant Manager, Warehousing & Inventory Control to support the Warehousing & Inventory Control team by monitoring and coordinating daily activities related to the receiving, storage, and distribution of materials, parts, equipment, and supplies from suppliers and internal locations. This role ensures smooth, consistent, and efficient operations so that parts and supplies are accurately located and distributed to the appropriate departments in a timely manner to meet operational and customer requirements.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential, Technical Certification required.
  • Four years of relevant experience with one year in a leadership capacity.
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving, consistently identifying and addressing challenges in a timely and effective manner.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all aspects of their work.
  • Proven ability to successfully balance multiple initiatives and competing priorities while maintaining a high standard of performance and meeting organizational goals.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check which may include any of the following: Academic record and verification of education and/or certifications; Employment history (including references); Criminal history; Driving record; Fingerprinting; drug and alcohol testing, Fit for duty Physical, Other records or information related to the candidate's suitability for the position.
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card).

Responsibilities

  • Manages the Warehouse team by planning and coordinating work schedules, training, and evaluating the performance of team members.
  • Independently runs shifts and takes lead role, providing direction, executing plans, and making adjustments as needed.
  • Demonstrates commitment to workplace safety and the capacity to influence behavior to create an environment that is safe for all.
  • Effectively makes decisions to support day-to-day operations, while expressing willingness and initiative to broaden scope of duties in an effort to expand operational knowledge.
  • Stays informed in the field of practice, demonstrating technical, functional, and job-specific knowledge required for assignments. Makes contributions toward achieving team and organizational goals.
  • Effectively uses verbal and written communication to deliver guidance, instruction, and feedback. Skillfully uses speech and writing to communicate facts, figures, ideas, and insights. Listens intently and breaks down barriers between teams and departments through both forms of communication.
  • Coordinates with Maintenance & Repair (M&R) to plan workload, while consistently making cost-effective decisions and re-prioritizing tasks when plans are disrupted.
  • Drives for results and high performance through developing relationships and strategic perspective, championing change, and influencing others in alignment with the Port’s mission, vision, and strategy while holding self and others accountable. Demonstrates integrity and takes initiative to continuously learn and develop self and others.
  • Monitors the receiving and storing of items in bins or on shelves in warehouses. Maintains inventory records for removal, marking, or tagging parts for identification purposes. Safeguards warehouse operations and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols. Controls inventory levels by conducting physical cycle counts and reconciling with DataStream.
  • Coordinates with vendors to arrange timely pickup and delivery of repair parts and manage logistics for transporting larger items to and from the facility.
  • Complies with state and local warehousing, material handling, and shipping requirements and enforces adherence to requirements. Advises management on needed actions.
  • Maintains proper levels of inventory, fills orders, issues materials to the office or production areas, and submits requisitions for replacement stock. Maintains receiving, warehousing, and distribution operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Ensures public records and information are managed, maintained, and disposed of in accordance with records management policies and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with all security, safety, and environmental regulations, corporate guidelines on business ethics, and policies within work area at all times. This includes properly addressing issues through action or reporting issues and concerns to Manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
