This position is responsible for directing the activities of an investigative field office to improve capabilities and operational procedures. Work is performed under the general supervision of the district manager through conferences and review of accomplishments concerning the achievement of the unit and division goals and objectives. The incumbent will be responsible for all supervisory duties including hiring and selection, developing performance plans, conducting performance appraisals, planning and directing work, approving leave, and taking disciplinary action as appropriate. The role involves directing, managing, and monitoring the activities of staff in the assigned regional office, including investigators and regulatory personnel, and delegating assignments, reviewing and quality controlling cases, and evidence control. Regular meetings with assigned personnel are required to assess progress, provide guidance, and solve problems. The position also serves as a team leader on special multi-jurisdictional projects, ensures regular training is conducted, provides guidance to Investigation Supervisors, and collaborates on operational procedures. Performance reviews must be conducted on time and objectively. The role requires providing support and advice to superiors, enforcing orders and policy, preparing reports, and analyzing statements of functions. Ensuring the office is staffed with high-quality personnel through recruiting, interviewing, and hiring is crucial. The position involves interpreting laws, rules, and regulations, advising subordinates on policy changes, and overseeing the region office budget through strategic planning. The office must be adequately supplied with necessary equipment and forms. The role includes answering public inquiries, making referrals, public speaking engagements, professional contacts, and promoting the department's goals and mission. Managers will be trained in Six Sigma and participate in process management, strategic planning, and process improvements. Press inquiries are to be referred to the Public Information Office. Coordination with law enforcement officials on unlicensed activity matters and testifying at hearings and trials is required.
