About The Position

This position involves dual responsibilities as an Assistant High School Boys Basketball Coach and a Classroom Teacher at Searcy High School. The role requires the individual to be an effective educator in the classroom and a positive influence on the basketball court, contributing to both academic and athletic development of students. The teacher will be evaluated through the Teacher Excellence and Support System and must hold the proper state license. The coach will report to the Athletic Director/Head Boys Basketball Coach, and the teacher will report to the Principal and/or other Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate proper sportsmanship and respect for players, officials, opponents, fans, and other coaches.
  • Maintain good public relations with media, boosters, parents, officials, players, fans, etc.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, staff, and school administration.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students, coaching staff, and the community.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to implement effective coaching theory, strategies, and techniques appropriate for high school athletes.
  • Effectively motivate student athletes to participate and sustain their interests in the program.
  • Work effectively with student athletes of varying abilities, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds to instill commitment, discipline, and teamwork.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and adhere to and keep abreast of rules and regulations set forth by Arkansas Activities Association.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students.
  • Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
  • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
  • Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress.
  • Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records.
  • Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress.
  • Use computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of school programs.
  • Prepare reports on students and activities as required by administration.
  • Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
  • Demonstrate proper sportsmanship and respect for players, officials, opponents, fans, and other coaches.

  • Assume responsibility for proper care of the school facilities.
  • Supervise all students under his or her care.
  • Report injuries to administration in a timely manner.
  • Assist in building and sustaining a successful program that is widely supported and respected by the Searcy Public School District and community at large.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal or Athletic Director.
  • To be an effective educator in the classroom and on the field.
  • To assist in maintaining high academic standards for all students.
  • To direct the athletic program in all phases at a high level of professionalism and enthusiasm.
  • To work cooperatively with other athletic coaches in order to operate a well-balanced athletic program.
  • To foster among the participants and spectators an appreciation of the values of athletics, a desire to win, an attitude of good sportsmanship, and a sense of pride in self, team, school and community.
