About The Position

St. John Paul II Academy - High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, is seeking a Head Boys Basketball Coach to help develop an athletic program under the leadership of the principal and athletic director. This position will help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, discipline, and sportsmanship. This is a part-time position. The Ministerial Character section outlines the connection of the role to the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop and the Church. The position supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life, acting as a witness to Gospel values.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum two years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with diocesan policies and procedures
  • Valid Texas driver’s license required
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and prioritize tasks
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and members of the community
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion
  • General use of computer hardware and basic office software, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge and experience in high school boys basketball curriculum and expectations
  • Planning and organizing skills
  • Communicates effectively in oral and written form with both students and adults
  • Demonstrates responsibility, competence, and enthusiasm
  • Presents a positive model
  • Exhibits a willingness to devote necessary time outside of the school day to work with students
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment screening, including criminal history background check, motor vehicle record review (MVR), and drug screening
  • Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources is required
  • Must adhere to all Diocesan policies and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the purchase of uniforms
  • Assist with the selection procedures of team members
  • Supervise games and community service projects
  • Assist with practices and games from October through February
  • Perform other duties as assigned
