About The Position

Our Assistant Director of Engineering (Maintenance) at Ka Haku will be responsible for overseeing daily maintenance and property engineering operations within a luxury resort environment to ensure guestrooms, public areas, back of house spaces, and resort amenities are maintained to the highest standards of safety, functionality, and presentation. The Assistant Director of Engineering provides operational leadership and technical oversight of the engineering team, ensuring preventative maintenance programs are executed effectively, service standards are consistently met, and maintenance issues are resolved in a timely manner. This role supports team development, operational efficiency, and a seamless guest experience consistent with luxury hospitality expectations as part of an opening luxury resort team. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Pool Operators (CPO) Certificate, or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
  • 5+ Years of Related Experience
  • 4+ Years of management experience, preferably in a luxury hotel or resort
  • Demonstrated ability to lead daily engineering operations and support maintenance team performance.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple operational demands in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for cross‑department coordination and team leadership.
  • Ability to analyze operational issues and implement practical solutions.
  • PM Systems experience (Synergy, HOTSOS as examples)
  • Strong understanding of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge on troubleshooting of Building Mechanical and Electrical equipment / system.
  • Able to read / interpret plans / drawing such as structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing & wiring diagrams.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, emergency preparedness and safety protocols.
  • Experience managing preventive maintenance programs and small-scale renovation projects.
  • Ability to manage departmental budgets, control costs, and forecast operational needs.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with maintenance management systems (e.g., CMMS), building automation systems, and energy management tools.
  • Ability to function in a hands‑on leadership role as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Engineering in managing daily departmental operations, ensuring efficient and effective execution of maintenance activities.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Engineering Supervisors and Maintenance Technicians, ensuring work is prioritized and completed to quality and safety standards.
  • Oversee daily engineering operations, including work orders, inspections, and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Ensure all building systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and life safety systems) operate safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor and support the operation of specialty amenities, including: Pools and water features, Exterior areas and infrastructure, Japanese style ofuro soaking facilities, including pumps, heating, filtration, and sanitation systems.
  • Review maintenance logs, inspection reports, and work orders to ensure accuracy, completion, and follow up.
  • Assist in identifying recurring maintenance issues and implementing corrective or preventative solutions.
  • Support departmental scheduling, staffing coordination, and workload distribution to meet operational demands.
  • Coordinate with Front Office, Housekeeping, and other departments to support room readiness and overall guest satisfaction.
  • Assist in managing vendor relationships and coordinating contracted services.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA standards, and safety regulations.
  • Support training, onboarding, and development of engineering team members.
  • Assist in budget monitoring, inventory control, and resource management.
  • Act on behalf of the Director of Engineering in their absence, ensuring continuity of operations.
  • Communicate effectively with leadership regarding departmental performance, operational risks, and improvement opportunities.
