About The Position

The Assistant Director of International Student Services will support international students’ successful transition to Knox College and the United States by providing comprehensive support services, including immigration advising, cultural adjustment assistance, and programming. Provide comprehensive support for international students by serving as a Designated School Official (DSO) and ensuring compliance with F-1 immigration regulations and SEVIS requirements. Advise students on immigration, academic, financial, personal, and cultural matters while coordinating orientations, workshops, and engagement programs that promote student success. Maintain accurate student records and data integrity, process immigration documentation, and collaborate with campus partners to deliver effective support services. Contribute to office operations through program development, administrative support, emergency response, student leadership instruction, and participation in campus committees and special projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • At least 2-5 years of experience in student/scholar immigration issues and higher education administration.
  • Previous/current responsibility for interpretation and documentation of institutional practice or policy regarding F immigration matters.
  • Demonstration of the establishment and/or delivery of a robust training and professional development plan and structure for staff who serve international students and scholars.
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity, effective communication skills, leadership, adaptability, and a deep understanding of F non-immigrant regulations and SEVIS.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO).
  • Assist with processing SEVIS related applications and requests from students, reviewing, updating and maintaining student records, and issuing immigration documents.
  • Offer first-level advising on programs and services available to students; refer them to specialized advising and support sources.
  • Assist students through one-on-one meetings, and through workshops and electronic communication.
  • Participate in special projects involving student engagement and support, working with campus partners on matters relating to international students.
  • Provide administrative support for office organization and programs, including international student orientation and procedure development.
  • Demonstrate cross-cultural sensitivity, effective communication skills, leadership, adaptability, and a deep understanding of F non-immigrant regulations and SEVIS.
  • Serve and provide guidance to international students on various standard issues impacting them, such as personal, financial needs, academic issues, immigration, health insurance and health care, travel, taxes and financial aid such as loans, grants or scholarships.
  • Monitor international student progress each term to ensure compliance.
  • Monitor and process the import and export of student records to SEVIS from the information management system on a regular basis.
  • Maintain data integrity.
  • Assist with the planning and facilitation of international student programs such as orientation, workshops, new student check in, and seminars.
  • Work as part of the campus-wide duty rotation; respond to after-hours student and/or college emergencies as needed.
  • Serve as instructor/co-instructor for IDIS 130, Knox College’s student leadership course.
  • Assist with planning the Intensive English Language Program (IELP).
  • Other duties and committees as assigned.
