About The Position

The Assistant Coach's primary goal is to instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success. Beyond athletic development, the coach is responsible for fostering socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes. This role also involves continuous self-improvement through coaching clinics, observations, and consultations.

Requirements

  • Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport.
  • Knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport.
  • Willingness to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
  • Ability to serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instruction and actions.
  • Knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the school and diocese.
  • Knowledge of existing system, state, and league regulations.
  • Understanding of the proper administrative line of command.
  • Awareness of all public, staff, and departmental meetings that require attendance.
  • Ability to give attention to a student athlete's grades and conduct.
  • Ability to provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant.
  • Ability to provide training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete.
  • Ability to monitor equipment rooms and coaches' offices.
  • Ability to authorize who may enter, issue, or requisition equipment.
  • Ability to permit athletes to be in authorized areas of the building at the designated times.
  • Ability to examine locker rooms before and after practices and games.
  • Responsibility for the cleanliness and maintenance of specific sports equipment.
  • Ability to secure all doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving the building if custodians are not on duty.
  • Ability to instill in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care, and proper use.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training for their assigned sport.
  • Promote the development and demonstration of character traits such as trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship in student athletes.
  • Provide guidance and safeguards for each participant during practices, games, and travel.
  • Communicate training rules and specific regulations of the sport to athletes.
  • Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
  • Monitor equipment rooms and coaches' offices, authorizing access and equipment issuance/requisition.
  • Ensure athletes are in authorized areas at designated times.
  • Inspect locker rooms before and after practices and games for cleanliness.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and care of specific sports equipment.
  • Secure all doors, lights, windows, and locks when custodians are not on duty.
  • Instill respect for equipment and school property, its care, and proper use in players.
  • Attend all public, staff, and departmental meetings as required.
  • Uphold all athletic policies approved by the school and diocese.
  • Understand and consistently implement existing system, state, and league regulations, interpreting them for players, parents, and fans as needed.
  • Adhere to the proper administrative line of command, referring requests or grievances through appropriate channels.
