About The Position

The Associate Vice President for Health Affairs Operations serves as the senior operational leader for the UNC System Office's Health Affairs portfolio. Reporting to the Vice President for Health Affairs, this position is responsible for directing the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of statewide health workforce initiatives, funding programs, grants, contracts, and operational processes that advance the strategic priorities of the UNC System. This position provides executive leadership for day-to-day Health Affairs operations, ensuring effective stewardship of public funds, regulatory compliance, project execution, and cross-functional collaboration. The incumbent serves as the operational counterpart to the Vice President by translating strategic initiatives into measurable outcomes while providing leadership over complex health affairs programs administered across the UNC System. The position works closely with UNC constituent institutions, state agencies, healthcare partners, and multiple divisions within the UNC System Office to advance healthcare workforce development and other statewide health initiatives. This position is a hybrid work arrangement and will work at least three days per week onsite at the Dillon Building in downtown Raleigh's Warehouse District. UNC System employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, Health Policy, or a related field, or a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited institution.
  • Seven or more years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare administration, healthcare policy, health systems operations, grant administration, government relations, or public sector leadership.
  • Experience administering complex public funding programs and managing large-scale projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Juris Doctor with experience in healthcare law or healthcare regulatory compliance.
  • Experience working within the UNC System, another higher education system, or North Carolina state government.
  • Experience in the North Carolina General Assembly, legislative drafting, or governmental affairs.
  • Experience managing statewide healthcare workforce initiatives.
  • Experience supervising professional staff and leading cross-functional teams.
