About The Position

Emory University is seeking an Associate Vice President of Facilities Management to oversee all maintenance, grounds, and custodial operations across its campuses. This role is responsible for the campus utility infrastructure and will lead the development of a short and long-term energy strategy focused on reducing consumption while ensuring reliable and affordable utilities. Key functional areas include preventive maintenance, grounds, roads and hardscape, building services, waste management, recycling, steam plant, HVAC, engineering, controls, security systems, and zone maintenance. The position involves overseeing contract negotiations for safety, environmental, and maintenance operations, managing a staff, and indirectly supervising approximately 650 employees across three shifts, with some operations running 24/7. The Associate VP will be responsible for addressing emergency situations, participating in strategic planning for Campus Services, leading enterprise-wide sustainability initiatives, and assisting the Vice President with staffing and organizational structure adjustments. This role also includes developing policies and procedures for Facilities Management, interacting with internal and external customers, presenting on facility-related topics, and representing Campus Services on university committees.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or a related field.
  • Ten years of experience in building operation and maintenance.
  • Progressive, demonstrated management/supervisory experience.
  • Working knowledge of capital construction.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local building codes.
  • Residency in the state of GA.

Responsibilities

  • Address all emergency situations arising in the facilities area.
  • Participate in formulating and implementing strategic decisions for Campus Services.
  • Provide leadership in enterprise-wide visioning and implementation of sustainability initiatives.
  • Assist the Vice President with projecting, allocating, and adjusting staffing levels and organizational structure.
  • Oversee the development of policies and procedures for Facilities Management.
  • Interact with internal/external customers and make presentations on facility-related topics.
  • Represent Campus Services on university committees.
