Role Overview We are seeking a strategic, creative, and highly collaborative internal communications leader to shape and strengthen how Chartis communicates across the firm. Reporting to the Chief Marketing & Communications Officer, this role will help build and steward the internal communications function, with a focus on translating firm strategy into clear, consistent, and compelling communication that strengthens connection, reduces noise, and helps colleagues understand what matters most. This role will partner closely with executive leadership, practice leaders, Talent, Transformation, Knowledge Management, IT, and other key stakeholders to ensure internal communications are disciplined, well sequenced, and aligned to the firm’s priorities, culture, and operating rhythm. The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable designing enterprise communication strategy and rolling up their sleeves to write leader messages, build toolkits, shape cascade plans, and create practical systems that make communication easier and more effective across the firm.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, English, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
12–15+ years of progressive experience in internal communications, corporate communications, employee communications, change communications, or a related discipline, preferably within professional services, healthcare, consulting, or a complex matrixed organization.
Demonstrated success building or evolving an internal communications function, operating model, or enterprise communication program.
Strong strategic judgment with the ability to connect communications to business priorities, organizational change, and culture.
Excellent writing and editing skills, with experience crafting executive messaging, leader communications, toolkits, and high-clarity messages for varied audiences.
Strong facilitation and advisory skills, with the ability to coach leaders and influence across all levels of the organization.
Experience developing communication governance, message architecture, channel standards, and cascade processes.
Ability to translate complex information into clear, concise, actionable communications.
Comfort working in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional initiatives and drive alignment without relying on formal authority.
Experience measuring communication effectiveness and using feedback to improve strategy and execution.
Curiosity, humility, and a strong sense of service; the right candidate will care deeply about how people experience the firm through communication.
A point of view on how to use emerging tools, including AI, to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability without losing authenticity.

Responsibilities

Partner with the CMCO and firm leadership to define and evolve Chartis’ internal communications strategy, operating model, and governance.
Build and maintain an enterprise communications calendar that aligns key firm moments, strategic priorities, change initiatives, and recurring touchpoints.
Develop and steward clear messaging frameworks, narratives, and internal voice guidance that supports consistency across leaders, teams, and channels.
Create and maintain tools that enable leader cascade, including talking points, FAQs, message templates, and channel guidance.
Instill clear roles, responsibilities, and decision rights for internal communications across the firm, including the appropriate balance between centralized guidance and LOB-/function-level ownership.
Partner with leaders to translate complex firm, functional, and change-related topics into simple, relevant communication that is clear on the “so what,” the “why,” and the action required.
Support change readiness and change initiative communications, working closely with Talent, Transformation, IT, and business leaders to reinforce major transformations over time, not just at launch.
Help strengthen leader effectiveness as communicators through coaching, templates, and practical guidance on timing, sequencing, and audience needs.
Create a mechanism for listening and feedback so internal communications is informed by colleague input, leader perspectives, and what is landing well across the firm.
Measure and report on communication effectiveness, including reach, clarity, engagement, channel performance, and indicators of connection and discipline.
Help identify opportunities to simplify, consolidate, or retire redundant channels, messages, and processes that contribute to noise or confusion.
Partner with business and functional leaders to ensure communications are timely, appropriately scoped, and delivered through the right channel by the right messenger.
