Lilly is making transformational investments in direct-to-consumer healthcare delivery through LillyDirect and other digital health initiatives. Role Overview The Associate Vice President/Vice President and CFO LillyDirect will support and report directly to the Group Vice President and CEO, LillyDirect. LillyDirect’s mission is to expand patient access to Lilly’s innovative medicines and digital health solutions through an end-to-end consumer health platform. This role will build, scale, and lead the finance organization needed to execute on that mission — providing the Finance capabilities required for a high-growth digital health platform operating within a Fortune 100 pharmaceutical company. This is a high-impact role, and the ideal candidate brings deep strategic finance experience and is comfortable operating in an ambiguous and fast-moving environment while maintaining financial controls. The goals of the role are to drive financial discipline and insight, enable smart capital allocation and partnership decisions, and ensure LillyDirect operates with a mission-focused, innovative, and high-performing culture. The CFO will serve as a strategic operating partner to the CEO, providing financial insight and analytical rigor to shape LillyDirect’sgrowth strategy, evaluate partnership opportunities across the healthcare ecosystem, and ensure the financial sustainability and accountability of the platform. This leader will also maintain a close collaborative relationship with LillyUSA Finance to ensure alignment on financial planning, reporting, and accounting standards across the enterprise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in Finance, with demonstrated experience at the senior director or VP level.
  • Proven supervisory experience leading and developing finance teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as a strategic business partner to C-suite executives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven strategic thinking skills and ability to operate in environments characterized by ambiguity, rapid change, and complexity.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 25%, primarily domestically

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or equivalent advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • Finance leadership experience within an ecommerce, healthcare technology company, digital health platform, or health-tech startup/scale-up.
  • Prior experience in the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry, particularly in commercial finance, market access, or business unit finance.
  • Candidates with experience spanning both health-tech and pharma environments are especially valued.
  • Direct experience leading or supporting commercial deal evaluation in a healthcare or technology context.
  • Track record of financial due diligence and deal structuring for partnerships, licensing arrangements, or vendor agreements.
  • CPA designation or applied accounting and internal controls experience.
  • Experience with direct-to-consumer or direct-to-patient business models, including e-commerce, subscription, or marketplace economics.
  • Familiarity with healthcare regulatory and compliance frameworks (e.g., pharmacy regulations, HIPAA, payer contracting).
  • Experience operating within a large, matrixed corporate environment while maintaining an entrepreneurial and agile operating style.
  • Strong data analytics orientation with experience leveraging financial technology and business intelligence platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the execution of LillyDirect’s overall business strategy, including market expansion, patient acquisition and retention, and new service offerings.
  • Serve as a trusted strategic advisor and operating partner to the CEO of LillyDirect, providing financial, analytical and strategic perspective on all major business decisions.
  • Be a part of the LillyDirect leadership team and contribute to the strategic discussion and decision making for the LillyDirect business.
  • Play a leadership role in evaluating partnerships across the healthcare ecosystem, including pharmacy partners, telehealth platforms, health systems, payers, and technology providers.
  • Represent LillyDirect’s financial perspective in cross-functional leadership forums and with external stakeholders as needed.
  • Monitor industry trends in digital health, direct-to-consumer healthcare, and health-tech business models to identify financial opportunities and risks.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain a talented Finance team responsible for the full scope of LillyDirect’s financial operations, including financial planning and controllership, business analytics, and strategic planning.
  • Foster an inclusive, high-performance culture that attracts top finance talent from both healthcare technology and pharmaceutical backgrounds.
  • Provide leadership, technical guidance, developmental support, and career planning for direct reports and the broader finance organization.
  • Build a team capable of operating with the speed and agility of a health-tech company while maintaining the controls and governance standards of Eli Lilly and Company.
  • Be an inspirational leader who develops future finance leaders for LillyDirect and across the broader Lilly enterprise.
  • Oversee all financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and long-range strategic planning for LillyDirect, ensuring alignment with corporate financial cycles and enterprise-wide goals.
  • Deliver timely, accurate, and insightful financial reporting and business analytics to the LillyDirect CEO, LillyUSA leadership, and corporate stakeholders, translating complex financial data into actionable business intelligence.
  • Drive financial discipline across the business, including P&L management, cost optimization, capital allocation, and investment prioritization.
  • Lead financial modeling and scenario analysis to support strategic decisions.
  • Lead strategic analysis of competitors and the industry and drive the annual strategic planning process.
  • Define, implement, and continuously strengthen the financial control environment for LillyDirect’s operations, including designing controls frameworks tailored to the unique risks of a direct-to-patient digital health platform (e.g., pharmacy fulfillment economics, partner settlement, patient payment processing) while meeting the standards of a publicly traded pharmaceutical company.
  • Ensure compliance with Eli Lilly’s Global Finance Accounting Policies (GFAP) and all applicable regulatory requirements, including SOX controls. Own the end-to-end controls execution for LillyDirect, including regular testing, remediation of control gaps, and proactive adaptation of the controls framework as the platform scales and enters new operational areas.
  • Serve as the primary finance liaison between LillyDirect and the CFO LillyUSA, ensuring transparency and alignment on financial performance, risks, and opportunities. The role will have a dotted-line reporting relationship to the CFO of LillyUSA.
  • Establish and maintain a close, collaborative partnership with the LillyUSA Finance organization to ensure seamless coordination on financial planning, consolidation, and accounting.
  • Collaborate on enterprise-wide financial processes including the Strategic Plan, Business Plan, periodic forecasting, and management reporting and analysis.
  • Coordinate with LillyUSA Finance on gross-to-net accounting and revenue recognition unique to LillyDirect’s operating model.
  • Partner with LillyUSA Finance on shared services, systems, and technology platforms to drive efficiency while maintaining appropriate business-specific capabilities.
