About The Position

The Associate Veterinarian provides high-quality medical and surgical care to patients at a Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospital. The role involves examining, diagnosing, and treating pets; providing preventive care; performing routine and complex surgeries and dental procedures; and creating treatment plans for hospitalized patients. The veterinarian documents patient care in medical records and helps ensure continuity of care when patients transition to overnight or referral-hospital care. The veterinarian works under the direct supervision of the Hospital Medical Leader or Area Medical Director for patient-care activities, while exercising discretion in clinical decisions and following Petco Veterinary SOPs. The position contributes to a productive practice and a cohesive, well-trained team, and helps promote patient well-being, employee retention, and customer satisfaction. Although the role has no direct supervisory responsibilities, the veterinarian is considered a de facto leader in the hospital. Most duties take place in a Vetco Total Care veterinary hospital, with substantial direct contact with clients and their pets. The position involves bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds as necessary, and standing for extended periods. The veterinarian regularly communicates with clients, veterinary specialists, and companies providing products or services used by the practice.
