About The Position

Canobie Lake Veterinary Hospital is seeking an Associate Veterinarian with a focus on avian and exotic species. This is a full-time position with a 4-day work week, Monday-Friday only, with no weekends. The hospital is an AAHA-accredited general practice and the 2024 AAHA Practice of the Year, with a strong reputation for excellence in both companion animal and exotic medicine. Approximately 50% of their caseload consists of avian and exotic patients, including birds, reptiles, rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, pocket pets, and amphibians. The role offers the opportunity to practice at the top of your license with a collaborative team, mentorship from experienced colleagues, and access to a specialist network. Requirements

  • DVM/VMD from an accredited institution.
  • Active New Hampshire veterinary license (or eligibility to obtain).
  • 5+ years of clinical experience, with significant avian and exotic caseload.
  • Comfortable seeing the full spectrum: birds, reptiles, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, pocket pets, amphibians.
  • Strong diagnostician who loves the challenge of exotic medicine.
  • Great communicator with devoted exotic pet owners who have big expectations.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented.
  • Passionate about mentorship and growing alongside a team that invests in learning.
  • Open to general companion animal medicine as part of a balanced mixed caseload.

Nice To Haves

  • ABVP boarded in Avian or Exotic Companion Mammal medicine preferred—or actively working toward it.
  • DEA license & USDA accreditation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Practice veterinary medicine at the top of your license across a rich variety of species, with a focus on avian and exotic animals.
  • Work alongside a collaborative team including Customer Experience Team (CET), Technicians (TT), and Veterinary Assistants (VA), all trained to support multi-species care.
  • Receive mentorship from experienced colleagues and support from a Medical Director.
  • Access a specialist network including a boarded surgeon, cardiologist, and two traveling internists.
  • Perform exams, diagnostics, treatment plans, surgery, and dentals.
  • Engage in general companion animal medicine as part of a balanced mixed caseload.
