About The Position

The Runstad Department of Real Estate in the College of Built Environments at the University of Washington is seeking an Associate Teaching Professor and Director of Programs. This full-time, nine-month academic position begins September 16, 2027, with an initial three-year term, renewable for three- to five-year terms. The role involves designing, delivering, and assessing instruction across undergraduate and graduate programs, mentoring students, and engaging in service activities. The Director of Programs will lead the planning, implementation, and improvement of academic programs, including curriculum updates, scheduling, instructor coordination, and student support. The department offers a Real Estate Major, Minor, Master of Science in Real Estate, and Graduate Certificates in Real Estate and Housing Studies, serving over 400 students.

Requirements

• Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in real estate, urban planning, construction management, geography, economics, public policy, business related disciplines, or another field with clear overlap in real estate theory or practice, with degree completion required no later than September 2027.
• Evidence of a strong record of outstanding teaching or professional practice expertise in real estate or a closely related discipline.
• Expertise in leading or coordinating academic programs.

Responsibilities

• Design, deliver, and assess instruction across undergraduate and graduate programs.
• Mentor students and engage in service activities, including departmental and college committees.
• Teach 24 credit hours during each academic year, potentially including large lecture and small seminar courses.
• Provide leadership for the planning, implementation, and ongoing improvement of the department’s academic programs.
• Oversee and implement curriculum and course updates.
• Coordinate class offerings and quarterly scheduling.
• Identify instructional needs and provide onboarding guidance for new instructors.
• Convene monthly instructor meetings to discuss courses and strengthen community.
• Communicate with instructors about schedules, syllabi, course content, and logistical details.
• Participate in program information sessions.
• Support the career fair, mentoring program, and other initiatives that connect students with employers and industry partners.
• Collaborate closely with academic advisors to ensure program structures and student support practices align with student needs.
• Contribute to graduation and celebration activities for students completing the program.
