Associate Tax Accountant

About The Position

The Associate Tax Accountant will support the IEEE Tax Management team with US and global taxing jurisdictions as it pertains to IEEE's operations. Primary responsibilities include tax reporting and compliance - non-profit, income tax, sales and use, international, basic tax research and interface with volunteers and staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in accounting or tax required
  • 0-2 years tax and/or accounting experience required
  • Basic experience with tax preparation and tax research.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to ensure that tax compliance plans are created that address the needs and known constraints of the IEEE enterprise.
  • Ability to analyze compliance requirements and identify problems and recommend potential solutions, with moderate supervision.
  • Must demonstrate the highest degree of professionalism when dealing with sensitive and/or confidential matters.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written with respect to assigned work.
  • High level of initiative and motivation.
  • Must be able to work in a deadline oriented environment.
  • Technologically savvy knowledge worker who seeks out technology solutions to business challenges. Proficient in Google and Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to build relationships and constructively interact with the team, internal IEEE departments and volunteers.
  • Ability to work with moderate supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA, or JD with tax/finance tax background
  • Non-profit, international, and indirect (sales and use or VAT) tax experience
  • Experience with tax software (direct and indirect tax applications)
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies, including automation and AI, in tax process design and transformation.

Responsibilities

  • Accurate preparation and timely filing of assigned tax returns: including Forms 990, 990-T and related state charitable and income tax returns, Federal, state, and local income tax returns, Indirect tax returns (SUT, VAT, GST, JCT, etc.), International tax returns/reporting (Forms 8858, 5713, 5471, etc.), Forms 1099 and 1042 tax filings and Other required statutory reporting
  • Maintain and update Tax Policies & Procedures
  • Assist with tax research
  • Improve efficiency and controls
  • Complete basic reconciliations
  • Review and resolve issues that arise with the enterprise transaction tax system or government taxing jurisdiction platforms and coordinate duties for the tax engine
  • Assist with indirect tax coordination for IEEE’s global conference business
  • Respond accurately and timely to inquiries from internal and external customers
