Systems Engineer - Associate System Safety Engineer
About The Position
Lockheed Martin Space is seeking an early career System Safety Engineer for their facility in Valley Forge, PA. This role is part of the System Safety Engineering Team and involves analyzing hardware and software, establishing and maintaining system safety requirements to support mission results. The engineer will support the Systems Engineering team throughout the system lifecycle, including trade studies, requirements allocation, interface definition, and translation of customer requirements into hardware and software requirements. They will also support Systems Engineering during System Integration and verification/validation of system requirements.
Requirements
- Knowledge of System Safety Standards
- Knowledge of the development, documentation, and verification of system requirements.
- Knowledge of System Safety principles to include hazard identification, analysis, risk mitigation and/or associated deliverable documentation.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret security clearance, therefore U.S. Citizenship is required
Nice To Haves
- Secret security clearance (or above)
- Experience using MIL-STD-882E and AFSPCMAN 91-710, or other relevant industry and/or range safety standards
- Experience defining safety requirements, influencing design to integrate safety requirements, and verifying safety requirements.
- Software system safety experience
- Experience participating in System Safety Working Groups
- Experience with Strategic Missile Defense/Strategic Re-Entry Programs
- Familiarity with MBSE
- Familiarity with DOORs
- Effective communication skills with the ability to engage and interact in group meeting/working environments with team members, development organizations and customers.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Responsibilities
- Develop and/or update Preliminary Hazard List (PHL), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Functional Hazard Analyses (FHAs), System Hazard Analyses (SHA), and Safety Assessment Reports (SAR)
- Prepare presentations and participate in Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings, and various working groups and safety review meetings
- Develop and/or update System Safety documents to support Customer, Range Safety, and contractual requirements
- Review and provide input to test procedures for adherence to System Safety requirements
- Coordinate with test range safety teams and writing range safety reports to support testing
- Development and maintenance of a Hazard Tracking System (HTS) used to document real and potential hazards, their assessments, and their respective mitigation's
