About The Position

Lockheed Martin Space is seeking an entry-level System Safety Engineer for its Denver, Colorado facility. This role is ideal for individuals interested in pioneering manned-space initiatives and contributing to a System Safety Engineering Team. The position involves utilizing engineering knowledge to analyze hardware and software, establish and maintain system safety requirements, and support the Systems Engineering team throughout the system lifecycle. Responsibilities include supporting trade studies, requirements allocation, interface definition, and translating customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. The role also involves supporting Systems Engineering during System Integration and verification/validation of system requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in an engineering or related discipline
  • Basic understanding of Aerospace/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering principles
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering discipline
  • US Citizenship required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using NASA-STD-8719.13, NASA-STD-3001, NASA-STD-1006, MIL-STD-882E, RCC-319/324, and SSCMAN 91-710, or other relevant industry and/or range safety standards
  • Experience defining safety requirements, influencing design to integrate safety requirements, and verifying safety requirements.
  • Software system safety experience
  • Experience participating in System Safety Working Groups
  • Familiarity with MBSE
  • Familiarity with DOORs
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to engage and interact in group meeting/working environments with team members, development organizations and customers

Responsibilities

  • Develop and/or update Preliminary Hazard List (PHL), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Functional Hazard Analyses (FHAs), System Hazard Analyses (SHA), and Safety Assessment Reports (SAR)
  • Prepare presentations and participate in Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings, and various working groups and safety review meetings
  • Develop and/or update System Safety documents to support Customer, Range Safety, and contractual requirements
  • Review and provide input to test procedures for adherence to System Safety requirements
  • Coordinate with test range safety teams and writing range safety reports to support testing
  • Development and maintenance of a Hazard Tracking System (HTS) used to document real and potential hazards, their assessments, and their respective mitigation's
