About The Position

Liberty Mutual's Surety Underwriting Development Program (SUDP) is a 12-month program designed to equip individuals with the necessary technical, analytical, and business skills for a successful career in surety underwriting. As an Associate Surety Underwriter, you will work with experienced underwriters to understand how surety bonds contribute to economic growth, commercial development, and infrastructure projects, enabling businesses to pursue opportunities and meet contractual obligations. Surety underwriting involves a blend of financial analysis, risk assessment, and relationship management. Participants will learn to evaluate the financial health, creditworthiness, and operational capabilities of businesses, developing the judgment for informed underwriting decisions. The role includes hands-on experience in analyzing financial statements, assessing credit and project risk, evaluating contracts, and supporting underwriting decisions. Additionally, you will build relationships with agents, brokers, customers, and industry partners, enhancing communication, business development, and negotiation skills. Liberty Mutual Surety is the largest surety provider in the United States, partnering with various businesses to offer surety bond solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or comparable with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Experience with finance and accounting coursework.
  • Understanding of how to read financial statements.
  • Technical competence in fundamental financial analysis.
  • 0-2 years of professional experience.
  • Ability to think globally and adapt easily to different cultures and communication styles.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills with an emphasis on fostering relationships.
  • Willingness to relocate upon completion of the program, based on location.
