About The Position

Liberty Mutual's Surety Underwriting Development Program (SUDP) is a 12-month program designed to equip individuals with the necessary technical, analytical, and business skills for a successful career in surety underwriting. Participants will learn about the role of surety bonds in economic growth, commercial development, and infrastructure projects, while assisting businesses in pursuing opportunities and meeting obligations. The program combines financial analysis, risk assessment, and relationship management, teaching participants to evaluate businesses' financial strength, creditworthiness, and operational capabilities to make informed underwriting decisions. Hands-on experience will be gained in analyzing financial statements, assessing credit and project risk, evaluating contracts, and supporting underwriting decisions. The role also involves building relationships with agents, brokers, customers, and industry partners, while enhancing communication, business development, and negotiation skills. Liberty Mutual Surety is the largest surety provider in the United States, partnering with various businesses to offer surety bond solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or comparable field with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Experience with finance and accounting coursework.
  • Understanding of how to read financial statements.
  • Technical competence in fundamental financial analysis.
  • 0-2 years of professional experience.
  • Ability to think globally and adapt easily to different cultures and communication styles.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills with an emphasis on fostering relationships.
  • Willingness to relocate upon completion of the program, based on location.
