Associate Software Engineer

IntramotevSt. Louis, MO

About The Position

At Intramotev, we are dedicated to revolutionizing the freight industry by liberating tons of freight from congested highways, reducing carbon emissions, and enhancing transportation efficiency. We are deploying self-propelled battery-electric railcars and vehicles to transform freight logistics and bring innovation to our rail network. Based in St. Louis, MO, we are committed to promoting industrial revitalization, saving lives, and minimizing the environmental impact of trucking and transportation. We actively foster a work environment for every teammate that's welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunities for professional growth. Find your future with us. We are seeking an Associate Software Engineer to join our engineering team as we grow the software behind our self-propelled battery-electric railcars and vehicles. This is a domain-agnostic entry-level opening: we hire the engineer first, then place you in the software domain — embedded, full-stack/application, controls, or perception — where your strengths and our program's needs line up best. Across all four domains, the work is the same in spirit: writing and testing software against written requirements, debugging on real hardware, and integrating with the mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers building the rest of the vehicle. This is a full-time, 100% in-office role based in St. Louis, MO. You'll work within a team of 1–10 engineers and engage in occasional domestic travel for testing, integration, demonstrations, and customer interactions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field. Open to December 2026 and May 2027 graduates.
  • 0–2 years of software development experience, including relevant internship, co-op, or university research/project experience — coursework and team projects count.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language such as C, C++, C#, Python, or a comparable object-oriented language.
  • Working understanding of the software development lifecycle, including reading requirements, writing tests, debugging, and version control (git).
  • Willingness to expand into technical areas beyond your area of expertise; ability to develop innovative and novel approaches.
  • Open-minded and comfortable working in a teaming environment as an individual contributor.
  • Fluent in both written and verbal English.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. F-1 OPT is supported.

Nice To Haves

  • Firmware on microcontrollers, RTOS, CAN/serial buses, bring-up and debugging on real hardware (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, JTAG).
  • Web or mobile front ends, backend services and databases, REST/gRPC APIs, industrial HMI, Android.
  • MATLAB/Simulink or other model-based development, control theory coursework, hardware-in-the-loop or simulation work.
  • OpenCV, PyTorch/TensorFlow, ROS/ROS 2, point clouds, sensor calibration, dataset tooling.
  • Experience in a directly applicable domain such as rail, electric vehicles, robotics, automotive, aerospace, or unmanned systems — including university competition teams (Formula SAE, Baja, robotics, autonomous vehicle challenges).
  • Demonstrated experience working on cross-disciplinary project teams alongside mechanical, electrical, or systems engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Write clean, testable, well-commented code for defined components in embedded, full-stack/application, controls, or perception software, depending on your placement.
  • Test and debug your own code to root cause, working from written requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Debug and validate software behavior on real vehicle hardware alongside senior engineers.
  • Use git and established team workflows for code review, issue tracking, and release.
  • Work with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers to integrate your software with the rest of the vehicle.

Benefits

  • Medical coverage: We cover 100% of employee medical premiums, plus low-cost dental and vision options.
  • Vacation: Full-time employees enjoy unlimited paid time off.
  • Equity: Full-time employees receive equity in the company.
