About The Position

The Mission Applications Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory is seeking a talented and motivated Associate Software Engineer to join their team. This role involves creating lasting impact in areas such as nuclear energy, space exploration, global security, and medicinal research. Software Developers partner with organizations and subject matter experts to solve complex problems through software solutions that have influence across the globe. The position requires a mid-level Software Developer who can effectively manage job responsibilities including developing and maintaining web and/or desktop applications primarily using a Microsoft technology stack, collaborating on analyzing complex requirements, working effectively both independently and as part of a team, building productive working relationships, communicating clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and exercising creative and analytical thinking with diverse and multidisciplinary groups. This is a hybrid position, with employees expected to be onsite as needed, and is not eligible for remote work.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in computer programming or related field and at least three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with full-stack development.
  • The ability to write performant, maintainable code, primarily in the OOP paradigm.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-placement drug test and participate in an ongoing random drug testing program.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with C# (strongly preferred)
  • Experience with Front end web application frameworks, preferably React and/or BLazor (strongly preferred)
  • Experience with SQL Server and T-SQL (strongly preferred)
  • Experience with Web Services
  • Experience with Windows desktop and mobile application development
  • Experience with AI coding assistants and plug-ins
  • Experience incorporating LLMs in custom software solutions
  • Experience with custom software-to-device communications
  • Experience with Cloud-based infrastructure (particularly with Microsoft Azure)
  • Experience with Power BI
  • Experience with Agile methodology practices
